A new documentary by the BBC is to be unveiled surrounding the death of Kurt Cobain. The frontman of Nirvana took his own life on April 5th, 1994, which brought the band to an end.

The documentary, entitled Moments That Shook Music: Kurt Cobain, sets out to take the viewer through the final hours of Cobain’s life. Shortly before his death, Cobain had been on tour with Nirvana promoting their latest album, In Utero.

Speaking about the documentary, Touchdown Films founder John Osbourne recalled wanting to capture an immersive experience, saying, “We are incredibly proud to be working with the BBC on this film, who share in our vision of using only archive [material] to take viewers back to 1994; to immerse themselves in this seismic story”.

With this release, Osbourne hoped to tell a story of what happened to Cobain in those final days of his life, explaining, “The only way to get a true sense of what happened is to witness it first hand, and that’s exactly what this film does. It never lets you look away”.

Much of the documentary will also include those who were there to witness the tragic events in real-time. Outside of accounts from the archives, there will be firsthand accounts from the electrician who discovered Cobain’s body as well as the police who were working on the case following his escape from rehab.

In the wake of Cobain’s passing, many tributes came out regarding his passing, including Courtney Love reading his suicide note aloud in Seattle. Other members of the rock community would also write songs in tribute to Cobain, including Red Hot Chili Peppers writing the song ‘Tear’ about him and Sammy Hagar penning Van Halen’s ‘Don’t Tell Me What Love Can Do’.

Of course, this would be far from the last time that the former members of Nirvana would play music. After Cobain’s memorial, Dave Grohl would end up forming the band Foo Fighters with touring guitarist Pat Smear, while Krist Novoselic would work with the band Sweet 75.
